Good morning!  I have a few things for you to mark on your calendar and to celebrate:

1. MARK YOUR CALENDAR:  We are having an After Hours event at our West Columbia store on Tuesday, 24 April starting at 5:30pm, in conjunction with the HBA Remodelers’ Council.  http://www.columbiabuilders.com/events/calendar.html#bf_calFrame_215  It’s by invitation only, and this is your invitation!  This is a great event at which to meet industry professionals, your fellow tile installers, and to network! Mark your calendar, and I’ll be requesting RSVP’s as we get closer to the date.  We’ll have food, drinks, the newest tile selections available, and more!

2. CELEBRATE: We wish to give congratulations to our fearless leader and owner/operator of Precision Tile Company, Scott Heron, for receiving the National Tile Contractors Association’s Five Star Recognized Contractor award. Scott’s recognition was unanimously approved by the NTCA board, and he is the first tile contractor in the state of South Carolina to receive this award! Congratulations Scott!!!!!! :o )  More details and a press release to follow shortly…

3. NEW PRODUCT:  We are now offering Schluter Channel Drains: KERDI-LINE (click the link for more information). An elegant, low-profile linear floor drain, the Kerdi Line drain is available in three grate designs, eight lengths, and is suitable for wheelchair accessible showers.  We are not stocking these drains, as of yet, but we can order them. ETA is 4-5 business days from the time of order.  I am working on scheduling a demonstration for this item, hopefully in conjunction with the After Hours, but I’ll let you know more when I do!

4. THANK YOU: Thanks to each of you who attended last month’s Remodelers’ Council meeting!  I enjoyed meeting some new people and speaking with you about marketing your small business through social media!

More to come on our After Hours event and training for the new Kerdi Line drain!  Talk to you soon! :)

Lagniappe Press Release

Posted in Becky's Designs, Precision Tile Installations, new(s) at 4:44 pm by Administrator

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

17 November 2011

Contact: Becca Bertok, Marketing Director at Creative Tile

Email: becca@creativetilesc.com

WEST COLUMBIA, SC.—As the Lagniappe Home Project nears completion, Creative Tile and Precision Tile Company, both of West Columbia, pitched in during October to furnish and install flooring for the Denny Family.

Brian Denny was a healthy and active 34-year-old, when an accident in 2010 at his job with Stock Building Supply confined him to a wheelchair.  The young family, including Denny’s wife Jessica and their children, Cooper, 6, and Kendall, 8, weren’t sure how to deal with the challenges they now face, when the Home Builders Association of Greater Columbia (HBAGC) volunteered to help.

The Denny’s new family home, dubbed the Lagniappe Project, which means “something given or obtained gratuitously or by way of good measure” (Webster’s), has been almost fully donated, including materials, time, and talent, by members of the HBAGC. The home, on which construction began in November 2010 and is being led by McGuinn Construction Management, will be completely wheelchair accessible upon completion.

Most recently, the Dennys visited Creative Tile’s West Columbia store to choose materials for their bathrooms, laundry room, and kitchen. Creative Tile, as well as their vendors, DAL Tile, Megatrade, and Custom Building Products, donated tile and setting materials, whereas Precision Tile Company, of West Columbia, a NTCA member and CTEF Certified installer, donated their time and installation expertise.

Becky Heron, manager of Creative Tile, is appreciative of the donations she received from vendors to help with the Lagniappe Project.

“As a company, we were happy to donate tiles for this project, but to have some of our vendors also step up and donate also, when they are not a part of the Midlands’ Community, was just awesome,” said Becky.

The Denny’s new home now boasts a beautiful black and white checkerboard laundry room floor, a fully tiled, curb-less master bath shower, master bath floor / walls and an art deco tile backsplash in the kitchen.  The home is currently being painted, and contractors hope to have things completed in time for Christmas.

“We could not have spent our time better than helping the Dennys,” said Scott Heron, owner of Precision Tile Company.  “This is a project that, although I wish wasn’t needed [for Brian’s injuries], I am glad to be able to give back to the community that has helped us and other Home Builders Association members.”

“I can’t thank our members enough [for helping the Denny family and the Midlands] to build a better community,” said Earl McLeod, Executive Director of the HBAGC.

A new use for old monitors

Posted in new(s), recycling newsletter tidbits at 5:02 pm by Administrator

Whether it’s a Television Set or a Computer Monitor, if it has a Cathode Ray Tube in it, it can be recycled into tile!

crookes-tube

This glass cylinder may not look like much, but it delivered all television programing until only a few years ago. Being that a Cathode Ray Tube is made of glass, it is easily recyclable.  Check out what the folks at Ceramiche Supergres are doing with old tubes:

What looks like resin in the 1×1 porcelain mosaic is actually glass…made, of course, from Cathode Ray Tubes.  How cool is that?  You could be watching a movie on your tube today and walking on it next year!
